🦜 Our Forever Flock The Sanctuary Birds
A Safe Place to Land — For Life
Not every parrot who comes to us is ready for a new family - and that’s okay. Some arrive with deep emotional scars or medical needs that can’t be undone. Others, even with love and patience, tell us clearly they feel safest right here with their flock. At Totally Flocked, our promise is simple: no bird left behind.
Why They Stay
-
Healing Takes Time — Or a Lifetime
Some parrots have been through extreme neglect or trauma. They may remain fearful, anxious, or reactive despite gentle rehab. Forcing adoption isn’t fair to them or potential families. -
Special Medical Needs
Birds with chronic illnesses, mobility challenges, or unique care requirements often thrive better here where we know their routines and can provide ongoing vet support. -
The Bird Chooses
Parrots are intelligent, social beings with strong opinions. Sometimes, after introductions and patient work, it’s clear they’re happiest staying in the environment where they feel safe and loved.
Life in Sanctuary
Our sanctuary birds aren’t “just existing.” They live enriched, joyful lives:
-
Spacious Aviaries & Play Areas — room to play, climb, and explore safely.
-
Healthy Diet & Fresh Chop Daily - tailored to each species and need.
-
Companionship & Social Time - with compatible flock mates and caring humans.
-
Enrichment & Toys - to keep minds sharp and beaks busy.
-
Unconditional Love - some birds just need a forever home that isn’t changing again.

Meet some of our Forever Flock
OUR FULL TIME PERMANENT SANCTUARY RESIDENTS

Hootie - The Heart of Our Sanctuary
Hootie, a 29-year-old Lesser Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo affectionately nicknamed Chicken, came from heartbreak. She was one of several parrots abandoned and left to die, surviving unimaginable neglect before rescue. Though her body healed, the emotional wounds ran deep — she arrived fearful, defensive, and unsure if she could ever trust again.
Twelve plus years later, Hootie has carved out a safe, permanent place here and become a favorite of nearly everyone who visits. She’ll drop her head sweetly for scritches, luring in new admirers — and sometimes “reward” them with a beak strong enough to warrant stitches. It’s her own complicated love language, and we adore her for it.
She’s been a long-time feather plucker and barberer, and despite vet checks, fresh diet, and all the care in the world, old habits are hard to break. Yet lately, she’s been fluffier — a hopeful sign we quietly celebrate while loving her exactly as she is.
Her fierce spirit, silly quirks, and growing trust make her a living reminder of why we exist: no bird should ever be thrown away. She now welcomes visitors, teaches patience and compassion, and shows what a second chance can look like when a parrot finally feels safe.

Belle - Sweet, Gentle Soul
Belle, a 25-year-old Greater Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo, came from the same heartbreaking abandonment as Hootie, surviving conditions no bird should ever face. Though her body healed, she carries quiet echoes of that trauma. We lovingly call her a “bluffer” - she puts on a tough front, but with a little patience her shy, tender side appears.
Belle has a soft spot for human men, often swooning in their presence with sweet, bashful charm.
Most days, she loves calm, safety, and a predictable routine - but come outdoor shower time, Belle comes alive. She transforms into a waddling “resident duck,” chasing the hose with pure delight and muttering her happy, water-loving demands.
With her big, expressive eyes and those round little “pantaloons,” Belle has forever claimed our hearts. Though she and Hootie keep to themselves, their quiet bond as survivors still runs deep — two lives forever linked by where they came from, and how far they’ve come.

Rito — The Fiery Heart Who Finally Found Peace
Rito, a magnificent Scarlet Macaw, has a story marked by love, loss, and resilience. Hand-raised as a chick, he spent his first four years deeply bonded to his person until her sudden passing left him without the anchor he knew. Her family kept him for the next 24 years, giving him excellent care, but Rito’s heart stayed unsettled - he bit hard, plucked his feathers, and wore his grief like armor. Even top avian vets found no physical cause for his unrest.
When it was time for him to come here, his second mom drove all the way from Pennsylvania to bring him safely to us. Knowing the passion and intensity of Scarlet Macaws, we prepared for a challenge — but Rito surprised us. Just two days in, he calmly climbed down, walked across the room, lifted a foot, and asked to be picked up. We shared lunch as if we’d known each other forever.
He can’t fly because of years of feather damage, but he loves our “flying” adventures — perched on a hand, gliding and exploring, soaking in the world again. His once-tattered feathers get more brilliant each day. Rito is both spicy and tender — and FIERCELY devoted to me. He makes no mistake about how he feels about everyone else though.

Fernando - The Blushing Gentleman
Fernando, a 31-year-old Military Macaw, shares roots - and history - with Rito. Adopted from the same breeder and raised in the same family in different states, Fernando spent nearly three decades adored by his mama. Years ago, she reached out to us for advice when he hit some challenging seasons, and we kept in touch. She loved him fiercely and kept going another five years, but when Rito found safety here, it was finally time for Fernando to join him.
Fernando is a little spicy but a genuinely good boy at heart. He wears every feeling right on his face - when he’s excited or flustered, he blushes bright red, a Military Macaw trademark that never fails to melt us. He’s not much of a talker, but his personality shines in other ways, and his feathers are breathtaking.
Now settled in sanctuary life, Fernando has room to just be - to feel safe, to show his colors, and to know he’s home for good.

John - The traveling old timer
John isn’t just a bird—he’s a living piece of history.
For the first 35 years, John lived with his original caretaker, forming a deep bond—until he heartbreakingly witnessed her tragic passing. He then found a home with a family member who took him on adventures across the U.S. in their RV. It’s hard to even imagine all the places John has seen and the stories he could tell if he had a journal!
As time passed and his second guardian aged, John was lovingly passed down to the grandson, where he spent the next 10–11 years. The fact that he remained with the same family for over 80 years is something truly special—and rare beyond words in the world of parrots.
John is known around here for his bold personality—spicy, quick to flip, and sharp as ever. But along with that sass comes a vocabulary and a presence that fills the room. He makes us laugh, challenges us daily, and reminds us how rich and complex a parrot’s life can truly be.
Since joining our sanctuary, we’ve been touched by the outpouring of love from his former family. Several relatives have reached out to share how much John means to them and how thankful they are that he’s safe and loved. It’s an incredible tribute to the kind of care and connection they gave him.
John will live out the rest of his golden years with us, full of treats, enrichment, and (hopefully!) a little trust-building. I’m determined to earn that soft spot in his heart—even if he makes me work for it.
We’re so honored to have you here, John. You’re home. ❤️

Romeo - AKA Romie - Our Resident Greeter!
Romeo - affectionately known as Romie - is our wise old man, a 50+ year-old icon of charm, stubbornness, and hard-won resilience. He’s the kind of bird who knows what he likes, and more importantly, who he doesn’t - and at his age, who can blame him? Romie’s story with us started online about six years ago, when his adoptive mom was considering taking him in from a pet store. We chatted, I even helped name him Romeo (because that charismatic glint was already showing), and she gave him a loving home despite her own health challenges. When those challenges became overwhelming, we each drove six hours to meet halfway so I could foster him - what was meant to be temporary turned into a six-month transformation.
His diet improved, he got stronger, and when it was time to reunite him with his mom, I made the long drive back without hesitation.
Sadly, a couple years later, her health declined again, and this time the drive was for good. Romeo came back to stay - and he’s been a part of our hearts and flock ever since. He still FaceTimes with his mom, and if you ever hear a raspy “Hello! Hello!” in the background of any of our videos - that’s Romie, making sure he’s heard, sometimes with much attitude! He moves a little slower some days, but most days you'd never know his age - until he grabs a power nap in odd positions!
He’s come so far - he cracks almonds all by himself now and even does his adorable “bat bird” routine, hanging upside down like a pro without falling. Grumpy, goofy, and full of heart, Romeo reminds us that every chapter of a bird’s life matters, no matter how late it starts -
that love, safety, and second chances are always worth the journey.

Lola - is FIIINE FIIINE FIIIINE!
Lola is everything you’d expect from an Amazon - bold, sassy, and sharp in every way. She came to us after her elderly owners entered nursing care. Family tried to step in, but despite their love, they couldn’t give her the care and attention she needed.
Known as a “fierce biter” (with the scars to back it up), Lola once trusted only her original mom. But here, she’s found her groove and settled into flock life with surprising ease. She’s also a world-class talker and singer — belting out gems like her mysterious hit “$45 Porcupines” and her signature hook,
“Oh, it’s fine fine fine, alllll the time!”
Don’t be fooled by the tunes - Lola still brings that trademark Amazon attitude and will happily remind you who’s boss with a tail fan and a look that says try me. She’s taken a shine to Romeo, though the feeling seems… politely at a distance; their “friendship” is best maintained through the safety of cage bars (thanks to Romie's unpredictability.
Fierce, funny, and absolutely endearing, Lola has claimed her place in the forever flock - proof that even the spiciest souls just need to find their rhythm and their people.

SUGAR
15 yr old Lesser Sulphur Crested Cockatoo
Sugar is pure joy in feathered form—a soft-spirited, spunky cockatoo who’s made a big impact. She came to us from a loving older owner who, with a heavy heart, had to downsize a flock of cherished birds. Sugar had already survived an attack by a macaw that left her missing several toes, and while she gets around just fine, she requires a few special touches to her environment—thicker, softer perches and lower cages to keep her safe from falls. But don’t let that fool you—Sugar is full of personality and charm. She’s best known for her signature move: flinging her left wing sky-high and shouting “WHEEEEEE!” in pure glee. It’s become so iconic that nearly every bird here now does it too—she started a trend! Per her previous owner's wishes, Sugar will live out her life as a permanent resident, surrounded by friends (feathered and human) who adore her. Her presence is a daily reminder that resilience comes with a smile and sometimes a silly catchphrase.
Jambo
26 yr old Congo African Grey
Jambo is a firecracker wrapped in feathers—equal parts cuddlebug and cardboard architect, with a strong opinion about men. For the first 18 years of her life, she was cherished by a dear friend of ours, living a life full of love, travel, and companionship. When her family could no longer keep her, they entrusted her to us, and she’s been a beloved permanent resident ever since. Jambo is deeply affectionate with her chosen people—especially if you’re not a man. She gives the best beak kisses, melts into cuddles, and fills the room with charm. But the moment a human male enters her line of sight? Watch out. She transforms into a puffed-up, no-nonsense guardian ready to defend her space with gusto. Her absolute favorite pastime is getting inside a cardboard box just her size, where she carefully crafts peek-holes to spy on the world—and any suspicious male activity. She’s been with us for six wonderful years and has made it clear: this is her forever home, and we’re all just living in Jambo’s cardboard kingdom.

Nikko
23 yr old Congo African Grey
Nikko is a gentle giant—a big, beautiful African Grey with a soft heart and a brave spirit. He and his housemate Rikki came to us about six years ago from a loving home, after their devoted owner made the incredibly difficult decision to rehome them in search of a brighter future. Like many Greys, Nikko was cautious at first—slow to trust, careful with change—but over time, he’s blossomed into a sweetheart. He adores his evening snuggles and has developed a fondness for “chauffeured” rides across the aviary during feeding time, happily hopping aboard for the journey. Though he’s a cuddle bug at heart, Nikko’s a bit of a pushover—especially when it comes to his feisty neighbors, Jambo (pictured here with Nikko) and Hewie, who’ve formed a fierce girl gang and want absolutely nothing to do with him. Still, Nikko takes it all in stride, with quiet patience and a kind heart. He’s found his forever flock here, and we’re so lucky to be part of it.
Rikki
21 yr old Timneh African Grey
Rikki is a comeback queen—a spirited African Grey with a big personality and a heart that just needed the right space to heal. She came to us with her longtime housemate Nikko, both from a deeply loving home where, unfortunately, life changes meant their owner had to make the hardest call for their well-being. Rikki had a reputation—a deep disdain for the man of the house and a beak to back it up. She wasn’t shy about making her feelings known, and we were warned of her ability to cause some serious damage. But here, we believe in boundaries, trust, and second chances. With time and patience, Rikki shed her aggression and revealed a softer side. She even found a perfect match in a trusted friend, falling head over heels for her new human. Sadly, life took another unexpected turn, and Rikki came back to us—through no fault of her own. Now, she’s happily re-integrated into our flock and we’re gently working to include her in our close-knit Grey group. Rikki is a reminder that healing is a journey, and love doesn’t always follow a straight path—but she’s exactly where she belongs.

HEWIE
21 YR OLD CONGO AFRICAN GREY
Hewie is a refined little lady with a big heart and a charming British accent to match. About 3 yrs ago at 18 years old, she came to us from a deeply devoted family who adored her but faced an impossible situation—they had to relocate overseas for urgent family medical reasons, and bringing Hewie along just wasn’t possible. With broken hearts, they entrusted her to us, knowing she’d be safe and loved. And loved she is. Hewie’s sweet nature and quirky voice make her an instant favorite—nothing quite compares to hearing her chatter away with her proper British inflection. Her previous mom still visits when back in the States, spending hours doting on her, and we stay in regular contact, sharing updates and love across continents. Hewie has settled beautifully into our flock, especially as a proud member of the girl gang with Jambo. Together, they strut their stuff, swap gossip (probably), and remind us just how strong and special these lifelong bonds can be. (Pictured in the middle of Jambo and Nikko)

LOLA
14 yr old Yellow Nape Amazon
Lola is bold, sassy, and full of songs—an Amazon with a sharp beak, a sharper wit, and a surprisingly sweet soul underneath. She came to us after her elderly owners entered nursing care, and though family members stepped in to help, they simply didn’t have the means to provide the proper care and diet she needed. Known as a “biter”—with the scars to prove it—Lola was once only trusted by her original mom. But here, she’s found her rhythm and has settled into flock life with surprising ease. A fantastic talker and singer, Lola delights us daily with her greatest hits like “$45 porcupines” and her endlessly catchy tune: “Oh, it’s fine fine fine, alllll the time!” While she still brings that classic Amazon ‘tude and isn't afraid to remind you with a tail fanning, we love her just the way she is. She’s particularly fond of Romeo and spends her days next to him, even if the feeling isn’t exactly mutual—Romie prefers his space, so their friendship stays “behind bars,” quite literally. Fierce, funny, and undeniably lovable, Lola is a lifer through and through.
MANGO
28 yr old Blue & Gold Macaw
Mango is our extra spicy girl—beautiful, bold, and bursting with personality. She came to us after bouncing through at least three previous homes, each struggling with her possessive nature. Mango doesn’t just bond—she claims her space, her toys, and especially her bird neighbors. In her last home, that made it impossible to handle their younger macaw, and her behavior became too much to manage. Since joining us, Mango has shown just how much she has to offer—with the right understanding and approach. She’s an incredible talker, full of sass and sweetness, and if she loves you, prepare for a flurry of enthusiastic tongue kisses up your arm, neck, and face. But be warned—approach her cage without care, and she’ll let you know that’s not how we do things. When she first arrived, she despised showers, but over time, she’s grown to love them, and now proudly shows off her stunning feathers afterward. A true toy demolisher, she’s earned her beaver badge for shredding anything wooden (or not). Mango may be a challenge, but she’s a joy too—our fiercely loyal, fiery feathered queen who’s found her forever flock.

SASHA
15? yr old (Eleanora) Sulphur Crested Cockatoo
Sasha’s past is mostly a mystery, but what we do know speaks volumes—and makes her transformation all the more powerful. Her story took a turn when her last owner moved into a room rental and discovered she’d been abandoned there by someone who moved out. He did his best to care for her over the next five years, but her needs far outweighed what he could provide. Trapped in a dark, trash-filled room, confined to a cramped chicken cage, and fed an unhealthy diet, Sasha endured years of neglect, though she was reportedly bonded to her last owner and wary of everyone else. When she came to us, we braced for that infamous switch—waiting for the moment her fear would turn to aggression. But it never came. Instead, Sasha slowly began to trust. She’s thriving now—her feathers are growing in, she’s discovering the joy of toys, and she’s and she’s developed a love for fresh water, good food, whole nuts, and of course—scritches. She no longer screams in distress, and instead spends her days calmly enjoying the company of her new flock. Sasha, once silent and shut down, is now blossoming into the bird she was always meant to be: curious, gentle, and deeply deserving of love. Her journey is a sobering reflection of how common stories like hers are—but also a powerful testament to what safety, kindness, and consistency can do. Sasha may never tell us where she came from, but her future is full of promise, and she’s exactly where she belongs.
