Welcome!
We're so glad you're considering adopting one of our birds!
Adopting a parrot isn't like stopping by a pet store. It's the beginning of a relationship that could last decades. Our goal is simple: find the right bird for the right home and set both up for long-term success.
Our adoption process is built on honesty, education, and making sure every bird has the opportunity to thrive.
✅ Adoption Requirements
📍 Location
Applicants must live within approximately a 4-5 hour (350-mile) drive of Pensacola, Florida. Limited exceptions may be considered.
👤 Age Requirements
-
Minimum age for any adoption: 18
-
Birds larger than a cockatiel: 21+ (occasional exceptions for experienced, mature applicants)
-
🚭 Smoke-Free Home
Smoking inside the home is not permitted. Birds have extremely sensitive respiratory systems, making indoor smoke dangerous. Outdoor smokers may still qualify.
🏡 Stable Home Environment
If you rent or share your home with others, everyone must be supportive of adopting a bird, and you must be the primary decision-maker regarding the bird's care.
🎁 Birds Are Never Gifts
The person who will own and care for the bird must complete the application and be approved.
🦜 Large Birds & Apartment Living
Macaws and cockatoos are incredibly loud. For their well-being and your neighbors', apartment living generally isn't an appropriate environment.
🥗 Proper Nutrition
We require all birds to be fed a balanced diet that includes quality pellets and fresh foods.
Recommended pellet brands include:
-
Harrison's
-
Roudybush
-
TOPS
-
Higgins inTune
-
Lafeber's
Seed-only diets are not acceptable.
🐕 Other Pets Welcome
We love multi-pet households! As long as every animal is safe, healthy, and well cared for, other pets are not a problem.
📝 The Adoption Process
1️⃣ Submit Your Application
Complete the adoption application with as much detail as possible. Tell us about your home, lifestyle, experience, and what you're looking for in a companion bird.
2️⃣ Messenger Interview
After submitting your application, send us a Facebook message.
We'll schedule a brief Messenger video interview that includes:
• Home walkthrough
• Driver's license verification
• Photos or video of your current cages (if applicable)
• Meeting your current pets
3️⃣ Get Ready
Before adoption you'll need:
✅ Appropriate cage
✅ Toys and enrichment
✅ Food
Don't have a cage yet? We often have quality used cages available at reasonable prices.
4️⃣ Meet Your Match
Visit the rescue to spend time with birds that match your personality and lifestyle.
Remember...
The bird gets a vote, too.
If everyone agrees it's the right fit and you're prepared, many adoptions can be completed the same day.
5️⃣ Adoption Day
Please bring:
✔ Appropriate travel carrier
✔ Adoption fee
Accepted payment methods:
• Cash
• Venmo
• PayPal
• Cash App
(No personal checks.)
If you're purchasing a cage, make sure your vehicle has enough room.
Travel Tip: Bring bird-safe snacks such as grapes, almonds, or apple slices to help make the ride home more enjoyable.
❤️ If Things Don't Work Out
Sometimes the bird you fall in love with isn't ultimately the right match.
That's okay.
Within 60 days, if the relationship simply isn't working (not because birds make noise or occasionally bite),
we'll discuss a one adoption exchange for another available bird.
If the second bird also isn't the right fit, it's likely that now just isn't the right time for bird ownership.
Your original adoption fee then becomes a tax-deductible donation that helps us continue rescuing birds.
🚨 Our Lifetime Return Policy
This is one rule that never changes.
Whether it's 6 days or 6 years after adoption...
If you can no longer keep your bird for any reason, they MUST be returned to Totally Flocked Avian Rescue.
No selling.
No giving them away.
No posting them online.
No rehoming.
No exceptions.
This policy is legally binding and exists for one reason:
No Bird Left Behind.
💙 Where Your Adoption Fee Goes
Every adoption fee goes directly back into caring for rescue birds.
Your support helps provide:
🥜 Premium nutrition, fresh produce, and quality pellets
🩺 Veterinary care, bloodwork, DNA testing, and emergency treatment
🚐 Rescue, transportation, and intake supplies
🧸 Toys, enrichment, perches, playstands, and appropriate cages
🏠 Aviary maintenance, utilities, cleaning supplies, repairs, and facility improvements
We don't cut corners.
Every dollar helps give another bird the opportunity for a safe, healthy, and happy future.
Our adoption fees are set well below typical pet store prices—not because these birds aren’t priceless, but because we’re not here to sell animals. We’re here to rescue, rehab, and place them safely.
Those fees go right back into the flock: food, vet care, toys, enrichment, utilities, and keeping the facility running so we can keep saying “yes” when a bird needs help.

Olive Oil is a sweet little female cockatiel of unknown age. We suspect she's an older girl, likely 10 years or older. She's happiest in a calm, quiet home where she can enjoy the company of her people without the expectation of being handled. She loves being talked to and simply spending time near those she trusts, making her a wonderful companion for someone who appreciates a gentle, low-key bird.

Piper is a 4-year-old female cockatiel with a sweet personality. While she may be a little reserved at first, she's friendly once she gets to know and trust you. Piper enjoys being a companion and is happiest simply spending time with her favorite people, whether that's chatting quietly or just keeping you company throughout the day.

Tex is a handsome Double Yellow-Headed Amazon, around 25 years old. He spent his entire life with a beloved owner and is now looking for someone willing to give him the time and patience he deserves. Tex naturally prefers the company of men, though like many Amazons, trust isn't given overnight. He needs an adopter who understands that meaningful relationships are built on his timeline, not ours.

Nicky is a 20-year-old male Blue and Gold Macaw with a gentle heart and kind soul. While we don't know much about his past, it's clear he was loved and well handled at some point in his life. He carries emotional scars and can be cautious of hands reaching into his cage, but he has never lost his sweet nature. With patience and trust, Nicky's goofy, playful personality shines through, making him a rewarding companion for someone willing to let the relationship develop at his pace.

Angel is a 30-year-old female Goffin's Cockatoo who was loved and adored her entire life. Somewhere along the way, she decided she'd rather be a streaker than a fully feathered bird! Due to follicle damage, her feathers won't grow back, but that doesn't slow her down one bit. Angel is cute, sweet, affectionate, loves spending time with her favorite person, and is always happy to show off her dancing skills.

Kate is an approximately 15-year-old female Goffin's Cockatoo with the fun-loving personality the species is known for. She's incredibly food motivated, which makes training and learning a little easier, and her goofy antics are guaranteed to keep you smiling. If you're looking for a playful companion with plenty of personality, Kate is ready to entertain.

We have an assortment of young parakeets ranging in age from approximately 6 months to under 2 years. These social little birds are active, curious, and make wonderful companions. Because parakeets thrive with feathered friends, they are adopted in pairs.
